I
am forwarding to you some information that I ran across
concerning the original Globe Swift. As I was going through
a scrapbook from the WW2 era I found a postcard from the
Globe Aircraft Corporation with a picture of the original
Swift on the front and specifications for the aircraft on
the back. In addition, I ran across a copy of Janes
All The World's Aircraft from 1941. In it was a three
view drawing of the original Swift along with an outline
of the specifications. I will attach one of these
items to this, and the next three messages. I thought
this information might be of interest to you and some of
the other members. -- Phil Howell
Postcard front...
This is what is known as "The Prewar Swift". The
Globe GC-1. Built by "Pop" Johnson who could be
called the Jim Bede of the 1940's. This design eventually
evolved into the post war "All Metal Swift" that
we know as the GC-1A and GC-1B. For more info consult
your copy of "The Globe Temco Swift Story" by
Stan Thomas.
(If you don't have a copy call the Swift Association Parts
Department...)
